Staying with us

A little info about your stay here

Facilities

There is a large central campfire, a great place to meet fellow campers and enjoy toasting some marshmallows and to have a chat. Also every pitch has its own fire pit, and logs are available to buy on site. All waste water from our showers and toilets is treated in our Solar powered Bio-Digester, which is why we supply environmentally friendly soaps and shampoos for use in our lovely hot showers, included in the price. There are flushing toilets, for the more traditional as well as a compost loo on site.

Pizzas

We also offer delicious wood fired Pizzas. 10” pizza just £7. These need to ordered 24 hrs in advance, as the we use fresh pizza dough.

Environmental issues

Too many so called ‘eco campsites’ just let waste shower water go to ground without treatment, this is against water regulations, and can be harmful to the natural environment. They also do the same with their compost loos. This is especially true of pop up campsites as they don’t need planning permission. If you care about the local environment, it’s always worth checking how a site deals with its waste.

We are licenced by West Devon Council, so have to adhere to all environmental health regulations. So you can rest assured you stay with us is as environmentally friendly and safe as possible.

Tree Planting and Rewilding

Over the last couple of years Ruby Country Camping have planted over 600 sapling trees, and over 100m of new hedge. Recycling is high on everyone’s agenda and our campsite polices ensure we have a rigid active recycling plan, so please recycle correctly during your stay.

We have also cleared our stream of rubbish and fallen trees, to enable the stream to flow again. This has brought back fish and an otter from further upstream, which has been wonerful to see. The amount of wildlife that has returned is truly amazing, with a Barn owl hunting over the field in the evenings and a Kestrel hovering above during the day. This is because we leave most of the field to grow naturally, so has encourage the field mice and shrews to return. There are also Roe Deer, Tawney owls and Buzzards

Access

Cars are parked at the edges of the meadow, there’s no parking next to the pitches. But if the ground is dry, you can drive to your pitch to un-load. We do provide wheelbarrows and trolleys to move your gear. We also have a trailer, and will be on hand to help if you need assistance. Just to let you know. Because we are just off the A3072, there is some traffic noise at busy times of day, but on the plus side we are very easy to find, in a great location to explore Devon. You can park your car at the top of the meadow.

On site we have No hard standings and No electric hook ups and no Wi-Fi. Small campervans are welcome, but there isn't enough room for larger motor homes or caravans, but please get in touch with any queries.

Children

There are many opportunities for play and adventure in our meadow, our aim is for children to have a truly enriching experience of space and freedom, parents are responsible for the supervision of their children on site at all times, we allow (in fact we encourage) campfires, and the yurt has a wood burning stove, so again, make sure children are supervised around all fires. There is a stream bordering our land, shoes or wellies must be worn in the stream at all times, as this was agricultural land, there may be metal objects in the stream. Although shallow, there are deeper areas. These risks are small and should be self-evident - but if you are not clear, please ask! Help will be provided by us if required. Notwithstanding the weather conditions, we encourage you to leave the car at the top of the field and walk to you pitch or yurt! Ruby Country Camping accepts no responsibility for Loss or damage incurred on site.

Campfires

Please only use the designated campfire places and do not enlarge or alter the position of the designated campfire places. Do not leave your campfire unattended and think carefully about whether or not to light a fire if it is windy. Regarding fire pits, consider where the fire pit is placed. Fire must be fully extinguished before going to sleep. Fire wood is only available from us.

Consideration for others

This is a peaceful, quiet campsite for the enjoyment of nature. We do not allow radios, stereos or other sound systems and only quiet talking is permitted after 10.30pm. Acoustic instruments can be played before then, such as guitars, harmonicas, flutes etc. Noisy visitors who disturb other guests will be asked politely to leave, without refund (this has never needed to happen).
